UNE can be very proud of the innovative professionals working so diligently together to transform health care.
Barbara Brandt, Ph.D., Director of the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education
The University of New England’s Center for Excellence in Interprofessional Education (CEIPE) is nationally recognized for providing students with opportunities to engage in interprofessional learning activities designed to help them meet the ever-evolving needs of the 21st century health workforce. These activities take the form of campus-based, clinical-based and community-based experiences that engage students from multiple health disciplines in collaborative learning.
This cross-disciplinary learning includes interprofessional team immersion, intentionally-designed service learning, student-led mini-grants, student-led case competitions, collaborative clinical education and mentorship of cross-disciplinary faculty scholarship.
The Center is committed to deepening UNE’s interprofessional culture through faculty development and community training that engage our clinical partners and promote collaborative clinical education in sites across Maine. CEIPE initiatives are bolstered by supportive relationships across UNE’s campuses and community partnerships.
CEIPE takes special interest in developing programs that educate students about the disparities and inequities that affect people in Maine and points beyond. Such programming engages community stakeholders, patients, advocates and consumers in the development of curriculum and programming relevant to community health practice.
CEIPE has been recognized by the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (NCIPE) for its innovation and transformative educational mission.
